CommentsOriginally at the junction of Bull Hill and Kingston Road. Presented by Mrs. Braybrooke of Eastbourne 1905. Inscription: “Be merciful to all God’s creatures”. Costs £45.0.0. The trough originally stood on the site of the old Bradmere Pond at the foot of Park Rise in the Kingston Road. [It has now moved again to near the bus stop in front of the church]. When the pond was filled in around 1905 a Mrs. Braybrooke of Eastbourne donated the trough for horses to drink from. She was a founder member of the Anti-Vivisection League and a fervent supporter of the RSPCA, but had no known connections with Leatherhead. The trough was removed probably during the 1930s It was then for many years in the garden of 1 Vale Lodge. The trough was moved to Orchardleigh but the family of the owner offered it back to the Council who have placed it in its present position.
