CommentsIn December 1892 this trough was erected in Temple Gardens. The gift of Mr. J.H. Buxton. In January 1894 it was removed and re-erected on the opposite side of Victoria Embankmento by order of the LCC. In 1906 it was moved again back to the north side of Victoria Embankment. This much travelled trough was moved to Hyde Park in 1985 as a memorial to the horses killed and injured in the Hyde Park terrorist bombing. The move from the Embankment to Hyde Park was achieved in two stages. On 18 May 1984 it was moved by a cart pulled by 4 shire horses to the Old Southern Railway Stables, Bermondsey”. At the stables it was refurbished and then installed near to Knightsbridge Barracks as a memorial to the horses killed in Hyde Park bombing. This trough was going to be located inside the barracks but instead it has been placed on public show at the site of the bombing. The Albert Gate ceremony took place at 13:00 Monday 13-March-1989. This trough is one of many donated by J.H. Buxton.
