Banbury inscriptions

Lady Elizabeth Rosa Banbury was the wife of Sir Frederick Banbury the member of parliament for the City of London; and daughter of Thomas Barbot Beale of Brettenham, Suffolk. Both Sir Frederick and Lady Banbury were strong advocates of animal welfare. He was the chairman of the RSPCA while Lady Banbury donated the funds for over forty troughs. Most of these Banbury troughs contain the inscription "BE KIND AND MERCIFUL TO YOUR ANIMALS" or "BE KIND AND MERCIFUL TO ALL ANIMALS".
